Favourite Bits: Review of Lucy Spraggan

So on Saturday afternoon I was sitting in the arena in the mud with Lucy Spraggan talking about the most random crap.  Since she was performing five minutes later I asked her whether she was meant to be getting ready for her show and she shrugged saying that she doesn’t even have a set list and that she was gutted she couldn’t stay and have a drink. Now I am a massive fan of Spraggan but I think this made me like her a lot more.

She opened her set with an amazing song. First it was an acoustic version of Beyonce’s Halo and in her accent the words ‘got my halo now,’ had the crowd singing along. She then went into her own very quick paced Spragganafied rap and then threw a few more covers like Katy Perry around before finishing on Halo again.

Amongst my favourite songs is Facebook because the lyrics make me laugh my tights off every time I hear it. She’ll remind you of all the shit things about Facebook like people having fake middle names and your ex stalking you. Another is Butterflies which she told the crowd was for anyone who was in love. Then cue all the cute lesbian couples kissing and some of the singles sighing.

When she told the audience she was about to play Last Night, the women around me went mental and got as excited as a housewife reading fifty shades of Grey. Everyone loved her. They were all laughing, tapping their feet in the squelchy ground to the beat and soaking up the sun while it lasted.

Her cover of Gold digger was just incredible and her rapping had me so mesmerized I forgot to write down my view. She has a gorgeous smile while she sings and added a slight American twang for this particular song. How she didn’t mess up her fast paced words I will never know. I mean I do a pretty mean Plan B rap but that’s only because I’ve practised in front the mirror when I’m brushing my teeth.

Her accent in her song Jeremy Kyle made me burst out laughing. There was a couple from my old school on the programme the other day and it just made me cringe behind a pillow watching them fight over a lie detecter test. The best line by far is ‘I need to win the paternity of my first born child.’ If you can see this performer anywhere get on it. She plays her guitar effortlessly, her songs are witty and cute, she has women going all hot and bothered around her like they’re in some sort of old fashioned novel and she will be so very successful in the future.
